Appalachian Spring Suite for 13 Instruments by Aaron Copland

Performed at the Mead Witter School of Music in the University of Wisconsin - Madison on 15 April 2018 by the Impromptu Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Anna Fisher-Roberts

X - 1 (2018) by Anne McAninch

Recorded April 15, 2019. Program note from the composer: Within the Cygnus constellation lies a black hole named X-1, which is where this work is named for. This work is a musical representation of the night sky, constellation, and the black hole. In the first section introduces all the materials for the work with an accompaniment that pushes the work's energy forward like the whirling cosmos. The first section ends with the ensemble collapsing in on itself and slowing leading to a second section that has extreme instrument ranges that highlights the vastness of the dark universe and twinkling stars. As the section evolves, the tension builds to a return to the driving momentum and developing ideas. Featuring Zach Pulse, oboe, Maynie Bradley, violin, and Cole Randolph, cello.

Lessons

Lessons typically occur weekly for 30, 45, or 60 minutes. I currently offer lessons virtually and/or in-person (covid vaccination strongly preferred).

Hilldale Location: For any inquiries regarding scheduling and rates for lessons on the West side of Madison, contact me directly. All ages welcome. I teach any level flute.

Virtual Lessons: I primarily use Skype as my virtual platform, though I am okay with other platforms as long as the sound quality is good. Some students take only virtual lessons, and some are on a hybrid schedule. Even if we usually meet in person, I am able pivot to a virtual lesson in the event of bad weather, covid exposure, or really any reason.

Beloit College: Register for MUSI 021 (.25 cr) to take flute lessons, no audition required (all ability levels welcome). We will follow all Beloit College Covid protocols. Contact Beth Pohl in the music office if you need a flute. For more information about music at Beloit College, click here.
